Here we have an interesting Seiko model, the 'King Seiko'.

Many collectors focus on Seikos range of sports watches such as the 'Pogue', 'Bullhead' and early divers, though Seiko made some exceptionally good dress watches. This began in the early 60s when a dedicated design team was given the job to reinvent the look of Seiko pieces. This resulted in two watch lines being produced...the Grand Seiko and King Seiko. These had sharp case designs, and strict specifications for the dials and dials.

The case designs were given more attention too, and certain features such as the KS signature to the crown and gold colour medallion on the case back, which instantly differentiate them from the standard Seiko dress watches.

In the late 1960s Seiko started producing models with a high beat or 'Hi Beat' movements. This model uses the cal 5625 which beats at 28,800 bph. Previous to this high beat movements were mainly used in chronographs where smaller increments could be achieved when timing events. The Grand Seikos were chronometer rated and priced similarly to the luxury Swiss brands, while the King Seiko offered a very similar watch but without COSC certification and suited a lower budget.

This example has a gold plated 36mm case, with a white sunburst dial and gold tone dauphine hands and large applied baton hour markers. The dial is in superb condition with very minimal ageing.

The case has sharp edges and a stainless steel case back with the 'KS' medallion on the back, Another feature of this watch is that the movement is only accessed through the glass and the instructions for this are printed onto the case back.

We have fitted a dark alligator leather strap with a gold plated buckle. The original buckle is also supplied.
