|Movement||Seiko Automatic Cal 6139|
|Case material||Stainless Steel|
Here we have a beautiful example of an early 70s Seiko chronograph, with a golden yellow dial and contrasting blue sub dial and tachymetre scale. The dial has a resemblence to the 'Pogue' and this watch actually uses the same movement. There is a day and date aperture at 3 and the hands, though no longer luminous are in superb condition.
The case is a tonneau shape and has the hidden main crown as well as he two chronograph pushers. The day and date are set via pushing in the crown for the date and pushing the crown in further for the day.
The case measures 39mm and has a a polished finish, though we have decided not to polish this as it is in good original condition.
The 6139 is more than just a vintage chronograph movement. While Heuer and Zenith competed to be the first to produce an automatic chronograph Seiko quetly developed its own. While the Cal 11 which claims to be the first automatic chronograph is an autmatic with a chronograph module added, the 6139 was completely designed as a chronograph. This means it is essentially the first purpose built integrated automatic chronograph. A nice piece of horological history there!
These also came with hardlex crystals instead of plexiglass, giving much more scratch resistance.
