Here we have a very clean vintage Desotos chronograph, with a 37mm case, panda dial, brushed gold plated bezel and the reliable Valjoux 7730 movement. This watch is likely to have been made around 1970 (the movement was produced between 1966-1973) and has a very 70s feel to it.
The larger case and brushed gold plated bezel gives this a bold look, especially when coupled with the matte silver panda dial.
The dial has two sub dials, a running seconds at 9 o'clock and 45 minute register at 3 (with a broad arrow hand). Also present on the dial is a tachymetre and a detailed minute track. The hands and applied hour markers are gold with some light patina.
The case is a large, thicker barrel shape with a brushed effect, this is a nice feature as a large gold plated case with a polished finish would likely be a little 'in your face' when paired with this dial design. This case also has short lugs so the watch does not appear oversized and sits a comfortable size on the wrist.
The Valjoux 7730 was born from Valjoux taking over Venus and renaming the Venus Cal 188 a Valjoux 7730 and ran for 25 years. Ths is an excellent movement and was used across many watch brands and models throughout the late sixties and early 70s. Desotos may not be a brand many have heard of but you get a quality movement inside a well designed case with an attractive dial. This means genuine value for money for anyone looking to collect vintage watches.
We have fitted a new croc grain black leather strap to compliment the black sub dials on the dial.
This watch uses the manually wound Valjoux 7730.
This has 17 jewels and a 45 hour power reserve.
Frequency of 18,000bph.
This watch is in excellent condition. The crystal has been polished so shows only very minimal wear. The case has very light wear to the back though the bezel and pushers show no plate wear.
The movement has been serviced so is clean and keeping excellent time.
